How I am privileged

  • I am privileged to have a proper roof above my head. 1 out of 4 people in the world doesn’t have a proper shelter to live in.
  • I am privileged to be educated, and to be able to go to college. 1 out of 5 adults are illiterate. 93% percent of adults don’t have a college degree.
  • I am privileged to have enough food to live a healthy lifestyle. Around 800 million people in the world are chronically malnourished. One in every nine people on our planet go to bed hungry each night
  • I am privileged to live on sufficient money. More than 3 billion people, nearly half the world population lives on under $2.5 a day. 1 billion children worldwide are living in poverty. According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty.
  • I am privileged to have proper healthcare. 1 out of 4 people in the world doesn’t have access to effective healthcare. Even those who have, affordable healthcare is out of reach for many.
  • I am privileged to have access to proper sanitation facilities. 2.5 billion people (35% of world’s population) live without access to proper sanitation facilities.
  • I am privileged to be free from any chronic disease, physical or mental disability. One billion people, or 15 % of the world’s population, experience some form of disability.
  • I am privileged to live in a place to have fundamental human rights. Right to equality, right to freedom, right against exploitation, right to freedom of religion, right to education.
  • I am privileged to have access to clean drinking water. 700 million people don’t have access to clean drinking water.
  • I am privileged to be able to connect to the world through internet. 60% of the world population don’t have access to the internet.
  • I am privileged to live in a free, democratic country.
  • I am privileged to have never felt unsafe because of my gender.
  • I am privileged to have never been mocked or threatened for my sexuality.
  • I am privileged to have never been discriminated or violated due to my race.
  • I am privileged to have both my parents. Around the world, there are an estimated 153 million orphans who have lost one parent. There are 17,900,000 orphans who have lost both parents and are living in orphanages or on the streets and lack the care and attention required for healthy development.
